Individual Nature-Informed Therapy
Low to no-cost nature-based counseling sessions for individuals. Availability varies based on grant funding and clinician capacity.. Operates independently of insurance networks, allowing us to provide flexible, nature-informed care for all. Receipts for potential out-of-network reimbursement can be provided upon request.

What We Offer
-
Weekly 50‑minute sessions: Weekly 50-minute sessions take place in local parks, gardens, or welcoming indoor spaces, depending on weather and client preference.
-
Approach: mindfulness‑in‑nature, sensory grounding, acceptance‑ and compassion‑based skills, gentle movement, and practical steps to bring nature into daily life.
-
Focus areas: stress and burnout, anxiety, grief/loss, life transitions, and feeling disconnected or overwhelmed.
-
Access: grant‑funded no‑cost and sliding‑scale options (pilot; limited capacity).
CNIT does not bill insurance. If you prefer to use insurance or want expanded availability, we refer to partners like CMHC (Chesapeake Mental Health Collaborative).
Capacity & Access
1:1 therapy availability varies with grant cycles and clinician capacity. We prioritize:
-
For people who qualify based on income
-
Fit with the nature‑informed approach and outdoor accessibility preferences
-
Safety & accessibility, including mobility and weather accommodations
When current capacity is full, we provide timely referrals through the Nature‑Informed Therapist Directory and other trusted partners, and maintain a short, actively managed waitlist.
For funders & donors: Your support expands access. A gift of $150 sponsors one session; $900 sponsors a six‑session arc for one person. We provide quarterly impact updates (people served, waitlist reduction, outcomes snapshot).
How It Works
-
Start the 1:1 Intake (5–7 minutes). Tell us your goals, schedule, and any accessibility needs.

-

FAQs
Where do sessions take place?
We meet in accessible parks and green spaces chosen for comfort and safety (parking, paths, restrooms when possible). Exact locations are shared after scheduling. When severe weather, mobility needs, or privacy considerations arise, we offer a nature‑informed indoor space that brings the outdoors in (natural light/greenery, materials, and sensory elements) while maintaining the same therapeutic approach.
Who will benefit from CNIT's Individual Nature Informed Therapy?
Sessions will be free or low-cost and available to individuals seeking support for anxiety, stress, grief, or life transitions, especially those who may not have access to traditional therapy services.
Do I have to walk?
No. Many sessions are seated. We adapt to your preferences and mobility.
What if the weather is bad?
We prepare for light weather; severe weather leads to rescheduling or a safe indoor alternative using nature‑informed elements.
Can I use insurance?
CNIT does not bill insurance. If you need in‑network care, we’ll refer to partners. Receipts for potential out-of-network reimbursement can be provided upon request.
Is this wilderness therapy?
No. The change agent is relationship with nature, not challenge‑based adventure.
Is 1:1 right for me vs a group?
We’ll help you choose. Some clients start 1:1 and then join a six‑week group for community support, or vice versa.
