Where Nature Becomes the Classroom

Study Abroad That Goes Beyond Sightseeing

Traditional study abroad programs expose students to new places. CNIT’s nature-informed university programs invite students into a deeper kind of learning, one that integrates place, reflection, community, ecological identity, and personal growth.

Our programs are especially well suited for psychology, counseling, social work, environmental studies, wellness, education, and experiential learning departments. Each experience is custom-designed in partnership with faculty and university staff.

The Alps were not just the destination. They become the classroom.

Monmouth University x CNIT: Peace in the Wild Alps

CNIT recently led an eco-psychology study abroad experience for Monmouth University students in Germany and Austria. The program brought together undergraduate and graduate students, faculty, and CNIT facilitators for a week of hiking, e-biking, sit spots, forest bathing, evening council circles, and structured reflection.

Students explored nature-informed wellness not as an abstract concept, but as a lived experience. Many described the week with words like resilience, grounding, acceptance, and transformation.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can CNIT design a program around our course objectives?

Yes. CNIT works with faculty and university staff to align the experience with academic goals, student learning outcomes, and program logistics.

Does the program have to be international?

No. Programs can be designed as international study abroad experiences, domestic retreats, campus-based intensives, or local nature-informed learning days.

Is this therapy?

These programs are educational and wellness-oriented. While CNIT’s work is informed by clinical expertise, university programs are designed as experiential learning, reflection, and wellness experiences unless a separate clinical framework is specifically created.

What departments are the best fit?

Counseling, psychology, social work, environmental studies, sustainability, education, wellness, and experiential learning programs are especially strong fits.

Can students receive academic credit?

Credit is determined by the university. CNIT can work with faculty to support learning objectives, assignments, and experiential components.
